EpicFest logoEpicFest is an extraordinary, free literary festival that brings children, teens and families together with authors, illustrators and the Library.

This event welcomes book-lovers of all ages into a community of readers

EpicFest is presented to the community by Wells Fargo, with community partner Read Charlotte, and with additional generous support from corporate citizens and individual sponsors.

EpicFest was created to remember and honor Jim and Elizabeth (Libby) Preston’s passion for reading, and to encourage and instill a love of reading in children.

LIBRARIAN TO LIBRARIAN NETWORKING SUMMIT

The 14th Annual Librarian to Librarian Networking Summit will be held at Joyner Library’s Teaching Resources Center located on the campus of East Carolina University.
The event will take place on February 23, 2019.

The Summit provides a variety of roundtable discussions on current topics for K-12 school media personnel. Facilitated by experts in the profession, these sessions also encourage attendees to bring resources to share. Our featured speaker is Gordon C. James, illustrator of the Caldecott Honor winning book, Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut.

THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN'S BOOK FAIR

The 27th Annual African American Children's Book Fair will take place Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 1p.m. - 4 p.m., at Community College of Philadelphia, 17th and Spring Garden streets, Philadelphia, Pa. The event is free and open to the public.

The African American Children's Book Fair is one of the oldest and largest single-day events for African-American children's books in the country, with an average yearly attendance of more than 3,500. The event features nationally known bestselling authors/illustrators, many of whom have won some of the most prestigious American Library Association awards including the Coretta Scott King Award. These authors/illustrators have produced some of the best books of our generation.

Please join me for a panel discussion with Shelia P. Moses, and Kelly Starling Lyons. With Judy Allen Dodson as facilitator we will talk bout the significance of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Coretta Scott King award. We will discuss the importance of the CSK award and what it means to us and for African American children. And of course I will be talking about my CSK honor for Crown

We will also be signing books!
